Colin Powell, the secretary of State under the George W. Bush administration, apparently thinks investigating the terror attack on America’s compound in Benghazi – you know, the one that left four Americans dead – is a “witch hunt” waste of time.
He said it – and also went on to fault one of the killed-in-action, U.S. Ambassador Christopher J. Stevens, for his own death.
BuzzFeed, citing a memo written by Powell to another former secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, in December 2015, has the story:
“Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt. Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who thought Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place,’ Powell wrote. …
“Hillary Clinton was secretary of State during the attack, which was the subject of a special congressional committee and remains an issue in the current presidential campaign.
“‘But blame also rests on his leaders and supports back here. Pat Kennedy, Intel community, DS and yes HRC’ – [Powell went on, in his memo].”
The HRC, of course, stands for Hillary Clinton.
Adding fuel to the fire is this: Rice thought Powell’s assessment was dead on.
Her reply read, BuzzFeed found:
“Completely agree. Let me know when you’re in town and we’ll have that glass of wine (for two).”
DCLeaks.com first obtained Powell’s emails.
Questions have surrounded the 2012 attack on America’s consulate in Libya, with Congress taking Hillary Clinton to task about what she knew, and when. The Obama administration at first denied the assault was even rooted in terrorism, despite the fact it occurred on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 terror strikes on American soil.
For days, the mantra from the White House was this: Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a Coptic Christian who posted a flim to YouTube called “The Innocence of Muslims,” was responsible for sparking the attacks.
